What is an implant?

Implants are screws made of titanium that are placed into the jawbone and used to treat missing teeth. A dental prosthesis is placed on these screws. The advantage of implant treatment over other treatments is that neighboring teeth are not damaged. In other words, neighboring teeth do not need to be cut. The implant tooth acts as a root and you can eat, speak and laugh as easily as a natural tooth. Dental implant surgery also involves a surgical process that replaces tooth roots with metal, screw-like posts and replaces damaged or missing teeth with artificial teeth that look and function much like real teeth. Dental implants can offer a welcome alternative to ill-fitting dentures or bridges and are therefore more preferable to methods such as traditional bridges.

How is implant treatment performed?

Implant treatment is performed under light sedation. A detailed examination and x-rays are required before the procedure. The jaw bones and remaining teeth are measured. There are two options for the placement of dental implants. In the one-stage procedure, a temporary cap is attached after the implant is placed. In the two-stage procedure, after the dental implant is placed, it is covered with gum and left to heal. The prosthetic caps are then attached. In both cases, a temporary bridge is placed and the healing process is expected for 3 months for the lower jaw and six months for the upper jaw. Sometimes new teeth can be placed on the dental implants immediately. With a dental implant, the patient can smile and eat with confidence.

Zirconium implants are a new generation of implants made to increase the resistance of implants made of titanium. It is used to increase durability especially in narrow jawbone. There is no difference from titanium except for durability.

Zirconium is also used in dental crowns. Zirconium is close in whiteness to natural teeth and reflects light. Therefore, it is aesthetically useful as well as durable. It does not wear and does not leave a metal taste in the mouth. No color change occurs over time. There is no harm to the body.
